Babette Semmer's practice is informed by the traditions of portraiture, genre painting, caricature and comics. She combines (auto-)biographical, popular and archetypal imagery with tropes and clichés from the history of art.

At PLAN B. Babette continued her ongoing research into tropes and fictions surrounding the female subject, specifically depictions of anonymous female figures in landscapes or interiors.
Tourist photographs, impressionist sea scapes and Renoir's nudes were only some of the cliches she had in mind when working on these new paintings and drawings.

Babette lives and works in Berlin. LINK
